Assorted Fittings



Ok, we are getting a little tedious here, I know. But to have a well-running filter system, you need to have unions, couplings, 90 degree or 45 degree elbows, as well as wall fittings for your return lines.

Now, most people really don't want to know about the nitty-gritty of their pools; they just want to look outside, see a beautiful blue body of water waiting for them to take a dip and relax. But to know how it all works, then you need some information on these items. And probably the best thing to do is to list many of the popular items here:

    Union: Used to disassemble your pump and filter easier and quicker.

    3-Way Valve: Used to divert water from one direction to another by turning the handle.

    90 Degree Elbow: Try making a turn with rigid pipe! This little fella makes it much easier.

    45 Degree Elbow: The kid sister to the 90 degree, only not as "harsh".

    Coupling: When you run out of pipe and need to run another section of piping, a coupling joins the two pieces seamlessly.

    Check Valve: Prevents water from going back the way it came from and also helps to keep the pump full of water so it doesn't need to be reprimed.

    Return Fitting: On the inside of the pool, water returns to the main body of water after being run through the filter system for cleaning. These can either be screw-ins or glue-ins and come in a variety of opening sizes.

    Brass gate valves are still in use today, although not as popular as they were many years ago. They are used to open and close off the flow of water.
